Okay, this
week we gonna talk about a topic of PARAPHRASING.
I’m sure that
you guys are very familiar with the terms PARAHPRASING but did you guys know
what is exactly the meaning of that terms???
Then I can
tell you what that meaning.
Actually the
terms PARAHPRASING is can be split
into Par-a-phrase.
Par is defined
as equal. So the exact meaning of paraphrasing is a phrase equal to the
original but written in other words and in a different format.
Do and
don’ts in paraphrasing:-
-include all
important idea
-don’t add any
new idea
-change the
vocabulary as much as you can
-don’t copy
more than 5 words in a row.
-don’t copy distinctive vocabulary ; quote it
instead.
Here is an example of
paraphrasing of a longer passage taken from the Duke website.
Original
Passage:
In The Sopranos, the mob is
besieged as much by inner infidelity as it is by the federal government. Early
in the series, the greatest threat to Tony's Family is his own biological
family. One of his closest associates turns witness for the FBI, his mother
colludes with his uncle to contract a hit on Tony, and his kids click through
Web sites that track the federal crackdown in Tony's gangland.
Paraphrased
Passage:
In the first season of The
Sopranos, Tony Soprano’s mobster activities are more threatened by members of
his biological family than by agents of the federal government. This familial
betrayal is multi-pronged. Tony’s closest friend and associate is an FBI
informant, his mother and uncle are conspiring to have him killed, and his
children are surfing the Web for information about his activities.
